Rugs can make any room look magnificent. Your rug may be an authentic handmade piece of a machine made cotton rug. Either way it is really important to clean your area rug properly so that you can maintain your investment. These few tips can elongate the life of your area rug.

1. Spills and Stains
   Immediately blot any stain or spill that occurs. You can blot this stain by using an absorbent towel. Be sure to press the towel from the outer most part of the stain to the inner most part. This will ensure that you do not accidentally spread the stain even further.


2. Carpet Shampoos
   Avoid using carpet shampoos as they are not intend for sensitive rug fibers. Instead you should opt for a steam cleaning service to protect your investment


3. Rug Fringe
   The rug fringe is a very sensitive area of the rug. You should avoid vacuuming the fringe of the rug. Instead sweep debris from the fringe.


4. Beating Your Rug
   Avoid beating your rug at all cost! Beating a rug wears the fibers and can cause you to take years off your rug.


5. Removing Chewing Gum
   Take an ice cube and place it on top of where the gum and gotten stuck on the rug. Leave the ice cube there for a few minutes. After a little while the gum should become hard from the ice. You should be able to quickly remove the gum without any damage to your rug.
